Update: Yarra East Main Sewer – North East Link Project

HOBAS CC-GRP Jacking Pipe is now installed at the Yarra East Main Sewer

The North East Link’s Yarra East Main Sewer is ready to go and can be added to the long list of Global Pipe’s successful project outcomes. Take a look at the new project pics from our latest inspection.

The installation of 529 pipes is a significant milestone and is part of the early works program which involved moving sewers, gas and power lines out of the way of the North East Link. While this part of the job is complete, the construction of Victoria’s longest road tunnels will continue for the next two years.

Bothar Group Boring & Tunnelling used three individual mini tunnel boring machines to excavate tunnels and move the Yarra East Main Sewer tunnelling 1.8 km under Bulleen road. When pipes need to be laid or replaced in densely populated areas, pipe jacking/micro-tunneling is the most efficient choice. The impact of trenchless construction on residents and the local environment is much lower compared to open-cut installations which involve large amounts of excavated soil and major disruption to traffic. Managing works well and minimising disruptions is a key focus in getting important infrastructure works done safely.

HOBAS CC-GRP was chosen as the optimal pipe material due to its exceptionally long lifetime, high abrasion and corrosion resistance. HOBAS pipe supplied by Amiblu proved its success by delivering on time with a smaller carbon footprint in production, low transport costs and a faster, more reliable installation process. Amiblu has the longest track record for proven jacking pipe projects.
