Project Background: This critical infrastructure project consists of over 3 kilometres of pipe which will support the needs of Melbourne’s growing population in the northern suburbs. The Donnybrook Road sewer is estimated to service around 16,000 properties in new housing developments and will discharge into the Amaroo Main Sewer. It is located alongside the Melbourne to Sydney rail line in a corridor that has been set aside for future utilities that will also be used by the housing developments.
Califam Constructions in conjunction with the tunnelling contractor Bothar, used trenchless installation methods at depths between 6 to 12 metres. Manholes will be added at later stages which will be used to access, monitor and maintain the new sewer.
Project Planning:
Precise project planning and specification is the cornerstone of any project’s success and is critical in high traffic areas like this one, where tunnelling was required under a busy road. Global Pipe’s Engineering team assessed the feasibility of using HOBAS CC-GRP Pipe systems and pre-fabricated Hobas Manholes for this project and created a seamless transition from planning and specification, to construction and project delivery.
Engineering and Design:
Our highly qualified in-house team of mechanical and civil engineers provided comprehensive technical support, engineering and design services at all stages of the Donnybrook Sewer Project.
Manufacturing and Qualification:
HOBAS Pipe Systems and Pre-Fabricated Manholes are certified to international standards from ISO, TUV, EN, and ISO9001. To meet these standards, stringent manufacturing inspection and testing is carried out, including raw material qualification, stiffness testing and dimensional verification.
Supply and Logistics:
Global Pipe provided a complete transport, freight logistics, warehousing and distribution solution to supply the pipes and manholes.
Project Management and Supervision:
Global Pipe’s team of engineers provided dedicated technical support throughout the project lifecycle – ensuring engineering challenges were dealt with immediately to minimise risk and maximise peace-of-mind for all stakeholders.
Training and Support:
Global Pipe provided Califam Constructions with comprehensive product support, product technical training information to installers and project supervisors. Global Pipe is also supported by the expansive engineering resources of our international manufacturers HOBAS.
